This post is your space to pitch player-run plots that may have wider-scale effects— plots that other characters can join, that shape the environment, lore, or dynamics of the world. If your idea involves other characters, creates setting-wide consequences, or introduces new concepts you'd like mod input or approval on— this is the place for it. Please include in your pitch your general idea, who is/could be involved in the plot and the timeframe it should likely take place during.
You're also welcome to use this post to workshop ideas with other players, interest check before kicking off, collaborate, etc!
General idea: Hi there!! I was hoping that, for a canon update I plan to do, it would be alright to pull some other players in and open it up to the game kind of like your answer here!! I wanted to give you a heads-up in case there's any potential overlap or it might affect anything. The details are spoilers and subject to minor changes, but those are below!!
Spoilers up to GDCG chapter 193
During the dream they experience, characters will visit the Hanbit Library, a location in Sekwang Special City, which is canonly only accessible through dreams right now. In the library there will be some flavour text, but most importantly—a window!
Upon encountering the window, characters will become other versions of themselves. These have to be versions they've experienced, but think of it as being able to pull from any canon point; they can be based on past selves from specific timeframes, roles, or in GDCG even different forms of contamination and other outside influences counted.
All things happening during the course of this dream are simultaneous. Feel free to encounter other versions of yourself and their companions along the way.
This last bit isn't necessarily canon but more flavour I thought sounded reasonable(!?) To give people something to do, feel free to optionally get pulled into any kind of book or story you want to reference or make up. Maybe you enter a book about marine biology where the author tours you through an aquarium while explaining, etc. Still, no matter where you may end up, you are still in the library.
Who is/could be involved: Agent Choi and anybody who wants to party
Timeframe it will likely take place during: I'm going to say maybe either January or a little while past that... The TL schedule is understandably a little erratic at times so that's when I'm estimating the info will be available in English!
General Idea: KICKS OUT LEGGIE REAL FAR .. this is a very stupid idea but
So the gist here is that Greed is looking for Tokens that may be able to use their new abilities to do a little alchemy. He'd be willing to teach them (via the Murmur or making a Tether, and probably having to spill some of his secrets in the process). And why would he do that, you may be asking? That's simple!
He's looking to be a find away to be an absolute pain in the ass towards Sleep.
Being a homunculus, he could never do alchemy himself, but he's watched alchemists do it for years. And he was around during the end of the series, so he's got the bright idea of trying to teach someone the basics of alkahestry (basically the opposite form of alchemy that purifies and heals) to see if the powers here can do something similar, given the right materials. He would probably try to test it out on a small area first to see if they can purify something (a puddle of water, some questionable piece of food) before moving onto a bigger area (say around his bar).
The idea is that if they can purify an area and make it harder for Sleep to influence it, that's a win in his book. I don't expect it to be completely fixed, but I was thinking that the transmutation circle could act as something that might deter Hosts or slightly fix some of the damage (water's a bit cleaner, maybe an energy-like barrier that frazzles Hosts if they get too close).
OF COURSE this is asking a whole lot, so if this won't work? No worries at all!
Who would be involved? Greed and any Token willing to bounce with the devil and make terrible choices.
Timeframe it will likely take place during: I'm thinking late March or early April (I am forever drowning in taxes, LET ME BE FREE...)
The Cost: If this somehow does work and Greed decides to use his bar, I think having the cost be on him is only fair. The stronger the barrier, the more he's going to feel it personally. I'm a sucker for symbolism, so having his overheating turn on him might be fun to play with, especially if he has to keep that barrier up using his own blood, or something similar.
Basically, your boy is gunna need an ice bath whenever things end up going to complete to hell and/or someone who he can willingly (or unwillingly, given permission) possess while he recuperates.
Like I said, I KNOW this is a lot, so totally fine if none of this works! This is just a wild idea, so thank you for even taking the time to read this jam!
this actually sounds really, really neat! congrats! offering blood is an excellent conduit for a token's magic, so using greed's blood is actually going to offer a better kick into making successful barriers/"safe" zones in comparison to a token using their own blood.
on to the token types— to make this a bit more challenging and needing some trial and error/reaching out to people (but without leaving anyone out), all token types could be capable of performing something similar to alkahestry, just in different ways and affecting different things. to make it well-rounded, different tokens will be needed for different assignments. for example, both aquamancers and pyromancers have a purifying ability; aquas are much more passive and peaceful, while pyros are active and aggressive, sometimes painful ( since they must burn away the corruption, so to speak, as opposed to washing it away ). Beastkin will have an easier time attempting to safeguard plantlife, while necromancers could purify the soul, bloodwrights could purify blood, lightweavers could make light shields, shadowbinders could filter the darkness, illusionist could purify the senses, geomancers the earth, and so on. I think that can give you guys an idea of what to work with, but if anyone has a question about what their token type can do, I'll be here to assist! (I'm also open to more ideas, counting that it fits the token type!)
The only nuetral token types that will not have a set type but could be capable of all elements, just at a weaker state, are artificers and runecasters. but to compensate, they will be able to pick up alkahestry a lot quicker than anyone else.
WORD AND this sounds sick as hell. He'll probably be teaching a mix of alchemy and alkahestry through trial and plenty, plenty of error (listen he's sometimes a bit stupid).
Would it be easier on you if I made an OOC post about it, letting people know and giving them a chance to ask questions and/or shoot some comments if they need to? I figure I'll give an outline of sorts and a rough time frame, and I'll try to answer what I can from my end. It might be closer to mid-April considering, well. JAZZHANDS taxes.
If that works for you, I'll get something written up ASAP! If you want a looksee before hand, just let me know. AND THANK YOU AGAIN
WHEEZES ... this write up got away from me, but here we go. And again, THANK YOU SO MUCH I know this is a lot, so I truly appreciate you taking the time to read through this jam and help with any questions!
Maybe, someone of you have figured it out lately. But Greed's been planning something - something a bit big. And what is it he's been plotting? Well, let me introduce you to:
Rebellion 101: Greed's Guide to Causing Problems on Purpose
Through the last couple of the months and into March/Early April, Greed will be actively seeking out Tokens. Specifically those he thinks might be able to use their given abilities a bit differently. He's got a reason for this, of course. And he won't be coming in without a little payment of his own.
If they're willing (or if he can convince them to at least give it a try), he will teach them some of the basics of alchemy and alkahestry (via the Murmur or making a Tether, and probably having to spill some of his secrets in the process). And why would he do that, you may be asking? That's simple!
He's looking to be a find away to be an absolute pain in the ass towards Sleep.
Being a homunculus, he could never do alchemy himself, but he's watched alchemists do it for years. And he was around during the end of the series, so he's got the bright idea of trying to teach someone the basics (see: alkahestry and counter alchemy) to see if the powers here can do something similar, given the right materials. He would probably try to test it out on a small area in the beginning to see if they can purify something (a puddle of water, some questionable piece of food) before moving onto a bigger area (say around his bar).
The idea is that if they can purify an area and make it harder for Sleep to influence it, that's a win in his book. I don't expect it to be completely fixed, but the transmutation circle(s) will be able to do something to combat Sleep. However, what they do will all come down to the Token(s) involved.
And he knows the rules. So, he will be using his own blood as payment to strengthen whatever transmutations him and whoever else happen to make. Especially the blocks around where he's set up shop.
However, it'll come at a cost, but we'll get to that!
β₯ Who would be involved? Greed, any of his CR or tethers that want to get involved, and any Token willing to bounce with the devil and make terrible choices. Just let me know whether or not you want Greed to reach out to yours! No worries if you don't! This is a wild idea, after all.
β₯ Timeframe: He's already started reaching out to people, tipping his idea (vaguely) to Silco (sorry buddy, a Sin's gotta keep some of his secrets), and otherwise keeping a tabs on the Murmur whenever someone's decided to gather some data on the people here. But I'm thinking some of the smaller tests will start sometime in late March, with his bigger test around the 'Nest towards the middle to end of April (I AM CURRENTLY in tax season hell, so APOLOGIES ALL AROUND ... one day, I'll be free)
I've reached out to the mod about this jam, and we'll both be open to questions here (best I can, anyway)! But below are some ideas of what Tokens might be able to play with:
Using Greed's blood is actually going to offer a better kick into making successful barriers/"safe" zones in comparison to a Token using their own blood.
On to the Token typesβ to make this a bit more challenging and needing some trial and error/reaching out to people (but without leaving anyone out), all Token types could be capable of performing something similar to alkahestry/alchemy, just in different ways and affecting different things. To make it well-rounded, different Tokens will be needed for different assignments:
β₯ Aquamancers and Pyromancers: Both Aquamancers and Pyromancers have a purifying ability; aquas are much more passive and peaceful, while pyros are active and aggressive, sometimes painful (since they must burn away the corruption, so to speak, as opposed to washing it away).
β₯ Beastkin and Necromancers: Beastkin will have an easier time attempting to safeguard plant life, while necromancers could purify the soul.
β₯ Bloodwrights, Lightweavers, Shadowbinders, Illusionists, and Geomancers: Bloodwrights could purify blood, Lightweavers could make light shields, Shadowbinders could filter the darkness, Illusionist could purify the senses, Geomancers the earth, and so on.
β₯ Artificers and Runecasters: The only neutral token types that will not have a set type but could be capable of all elements, just at a weaker state, are Artificers and Runecasters. But to compensate, they will be able to pick up alkahestry/alchemy a lot quicker than anyone else.
(We're also open to more ideas, counting that it fits the Token type!)
β₯ The Cost: Now, here's the kicker. If this somehow does work and Greed decides to use his bar (or any other big area), I think having the cost be on him is only fair. The stronger the barrier, the more he's going to feel it personally. I'm a sucker for symbolism, so he's going to have his own, Daemon overheating ability turn on him whenever he has to put up an especially strong barrier or circle (or keep it up). Alchemy is all about an equivalent exchange. And while he may not seem like it, he's willing to do it in order to keep what's his.
Also, if you know the series, you know how he ends up going out the first time around. Something something, ouroboros, coming back 'round to eat its own tail.
But long story short, your boy is gunna need an ice bath whenever things end up going to complete to hell and/or someone who he can willingly (or unwillingly, given permission) possess while he recuperates.
β₯ Bonus: The Devil's Nest: For anyone staying with Greed, has a tether with Greed, or is visiting the 'Nest and decides it'd be a fun time to sneak around, I will share some bonus goodies for a roll. Greed has been keeping a list (links are just for my reference so I don't ... completely fuck up what he should and should not know), as well as a map of potential places to try. Funny, that shape looks familiar, doesn't it?
If you want yours to be able to overlay it (or figure out that it even is a map), they'll find that big circle with an arrow? It is exactly where the 'Nest is.
But down to the rolls! If you want yours to try to find them in the 'Nest, I'll do an online roll. Here's how the numbers will work:
Rolling 0 - 5: Unfortunately, you don't find anything. Greed's got a lot of junk in the place, so you'll probably find something stupid. Why did he hide away a bunch of scratch tickets in a drawer? Why are you asking stupid questions? It's stuff.
Rolling 6 - 8: Ding, ding, ding! You find the list he's been making of potential Tokens. What do the notes mean? Who knows!
Rolling 9: You found the CVS Receipt Map! Hopefully someone you're friends with found the list so you can figure out what the hell it all means.
Rolling 10: Jackpot, baby. You find both the receipt and the map. Now what do you do?
PHEW I know that's a lot! But I'll toss some placeholders for questions, comments, concerns, etc. below. A HUGE THANK YOU to our mod for even entertaining this stupid idea. Hope you guys enjoy it. GO WILD and as always, the world is your oyster.
WHEEZE seriously, thank you so much! Just glad you like it! I've only gotten two questions so far, but there's absolutely no rush at all, so please take your time!
Question 1: When Greed is possessing people, is it all right for him to look like so?
(CW Disembodied souls in the image link)
Greed doesn't have access to his abilities here, but I've been thinking what he looks inside any would-be host would reflect how it looks when he is possessing someone in Brotherhood. Here's an idea of what that might look like!
I figure there's probably a glassy-looking barrier separating him and the souls since he's cut off from his Philosopher's stone. There's a couple of folks who have Volunteered as Tribute, so I wanted to ask beforehand!
Question #2: The other question(s) comes from Kal's player (over here for reference). But here's the quick rundown:
1. If this ends up working, can other Offerings eventually use their blood once Greed teaches a Token what to do? And will it still work?
2. Kalmiya might recommend reaching out to Two, what with him being a Runecaster and all. Depending on how March ... ends for him, that might be something either Kal or Greed might do. Course, that all depends on how everything works out this month, so this may be a To Be Determined situation.
And that's it so far. Again, I can't thank you enough for diggin' this idea and letting this stupid Sin make terrible choices.
2. yes, they can! but keep in mind that they will still likely need a token to make it work in full. and i'll keep my eyes open for the two contact, which could likely garner results if you convince him!
General idea: Silco wants to build small safe rooms sprinkled throughout the city.
These would be small, one-room areas, maybe things like the back rooms of storefronts or even studio apartments. They'd be reinforced with steel and other building materials to make them harder to get into - enough to stop a few Hosts or monsters with that level of strength, not enough to keep out continual waves of beasties or especially powerful monsters - and nothing to keep Sleep's influence in general out, either. If you've ever played Left 4 Dead, these would essentially be like the safe rooms at the end of each level. Just a place to catch your breath, hunker down, and get a little safety for awhile.
On an OOC level, these would just work as a setting within the city that people could use for RP, and it would be up to them how much they wanted to use them. Want an excuse to get CR? Whoops, your characters ran for cover and ended up in a safe room together until the danger moves on! Want to move CR to the next level? Wow, now you're stuck in a small room with the person you've had unresolved sexual tension with for months. And there's only one bed.
If people didn't want to interact with them, they could assume that either there are none (or none yet) in the part of the city they're in, or maybe there is one but it's been damaged. Overall, it would just be a small player-built improvement meant to facilitate CR.
Who's involved: Silco would be spearheading this, picking locations, gathering supplies, and managing volunteers. He'd also be managing continual upkeep and anything else related to them. He'll be recruiting pretty much anyone interested in helping, with a few exceptions (because he's a lil bitch who holds grudges). On an OOC level I'd first be reaching out to people who have indicated they were interested in working with Silco, then opening it to the game in general once I've got a core group (to make sure it can actually happen even if no one else is interested in joining!)
People involved could decide their own level of investment, from handwaving that their character is working on stuff in their free time to doing threads, logs, etc if they like.
Timeframe: This would be an ongoing, continual project. Reinforcing each room would take time, so the rooms would slowly increase from 'hard to find' to 'evenly scattered across the city' over a period of months. They'd also need continual upkeep due to damage from Hosts, people, and any environmental stuff in the city, so at any given time there might be safe rooms that need repair.
General Idea: Vander will discover and manufacture several major bank gold vaults deep underground in Manhattan will be βSleep free zonesβ. These areas are completely free of fungal growth or rot of corruption that the city suffers from; they are also free of Host or other creatures that stem from or are controlled by Sleepβs influence/power. These vaults will effectively be safe havens from Sleep and Her power, as granted by Sleep Herself.
The main gold vaults will be the following (discovered & functional in this order): 1) Federal Reserve Bank of New York β 33 Liberty Street 2) JP Morgan Chase β 28 Liberty Street 3) HSBC β 452 Fifth Street 4) Empire State Building β 350 Fifth Avenue 5) Scotia Bank β One North End Avenue 6) 40 Wall Street
The catch is that Vander has negotiated the existence of these zones with Sleep as a way to show the Tokens and Offerings that Sleepβs influence on them and their participation using those gifts are blessings. How? Within those zones, both sides are safe from Sleepβs influence such as monsters and madness and even environmental factors, but they also will slowly loose access to their Token/Offering powers, their tethers, the Murmur. They will gradually be cut off and while safe, they will enter a slow, deepening sense of isolation even in a vault full of others.
In order to encourage Tokens/Offerings to rethink muted or anti-Sleep sentiments, he hopes the isolation will allow them openness to embracing these gifts even if they come with inconveniences. As well, Vander will be utilizing contaminated food and drink to enhance Token/Offeringβs connection to Sleep upon their leaving the Safe Zones. Food & drink provided will be contaminated with his blood and upon leaving the Safe Zone, tethers and power potential improves for a time. These people may even experience a higher inclination to provide blood, sweat and intimacy to be close to Her.
Within the Safe Zones themselves, the proposed timeline for those to endeavor to accept the protection will be: βΉ 0-6 hours β A sense of peaceful safety. This place feels welcoming, like a reprieve from the madness. βΉ 7-12 hours β Itβs quiet, content and even promotes a sleepiness. Encourages in person conversation. Tethers begin to soften, the Murmur is difficult to connect to. A sense of zen. βΉ 12-24 hours β Token/Offering powers fade away; a sense of βnormalβ is experienced as one might have living in their own worlds βΉ 24-48 hours β Tethers are quiet, muted; the Murmur cannot be accessed; no Token/Offering powers. Itβs quiet, almost uncomfortably quiet. A sense of loneliness creeps in. βΉ 48-96 hours β Isolation, loneliness, a complete disconnect from Sleep, the city and the people they care about. The vault could be filled with people and it still feel abundantly lonely, like they are on the outside looking in. βΉ 96+ hours β Depression, paranoia, sensory deprivation, general malaise, complete isolationism.
While Vander is playing his part with finding and furbishing the vaults, his associate, Maria (Silent Hill) will be keeping tabs on who is utilizing the vaults, for how long and may play to encouraging them to utilizing the facilities and the contaminated drink/food inside. She will be gently pursuing and interacting with those with a pro-Sleep mindset while also working to subtly encourage those without one to reconsider their perspective.
Who Would Be Involved? Vander & Maria (Silent Hill) will be the primary proponents who are working on this project together. They are the subtle rallying point to encourage others to lean favourably towards Sleep and appreciating the gifts that they have been provided, including the fact that some of them have no other existence but what Sleep has provided. Donβt bite that hand that feeds you and all that.
Timeframe: The vaults will kick off when Vander makes an initial Murmur post announcing his discovery of the first vault and promoting it as a Safe Zone. After that, it will take him 1 full month (say June) to set up the other vaults. This vaults will continue to be safe haven for anyone that ventures into them for as long as Sleep withdraws Her effects in those zones.
Depending on future events, this Vaults will continue to operate as temporary safe havens, and the contaminated food/drink aspect may or may not remain if other Token/Offerings discover that contamination.

He'd be getting it started in April!

Vander will discover and manufacture several major bank gold vaults deep underground in Manhattan will be βSleep free zonesβ. These areas are completely free of fungal growth or rot of corruption that the city suffers from; they are also free of Host or other creatures that stem from or are controlled by Sleepβs influence/power. These vaults will effectively be safe havens from Sleep and Her power, as granted by Sleep Herself.
The main gold vaults will be the following (discovered & functional in this order):
1) Federal Reserve Bank of New York β 33 Liberty Street
2) JP Morgan Chase β 28 Liberty Street
3) HSBC β 452 Fifth Street
4) Empire State Building β 350 Fifth Avenue
5) Scotia Bank β One North End Avenue
6) 40 Wall Street
Within the Safe Zones themselves, the proposed timeline for those to endeavor to accept the protection will be:
βΉ 0-6 hours β A sense of peaceful safety. This place feels welcoming, like a reprieve from the madness.
βΉ 7-12 hours β Itβs quiet, content and even promotes a sleepiness. Encourages in person conversation. Tethers begin to soften, the Murmur is difficult to connect to. A sense of zen.
βΉ 12-24 hours β Token/Offering powers fade away; a sense of βnormalβ is experienced as one might have living in their own worlds
βΉ 24-48 hours β Tethers are quiet, muted; the Murmur cannot be accessed; no Token/Offering powers.
